kosmos

Maurya Kerr (tinypistol)

An evening-length dance work by Maurya Kerr's tinypistol that uses cosmic imagery to propose that claiming boundlessness is a political act for people of color. In tinypistol's words, 'kosmos' boldly imagines the new territory of hope, equal access to wishing upon a star, and saying yes to the future. Ben composed the commissioned score.

June 21-23, 2018, 8pm, ODC Theater. tinypistol's Vimeo opening excerpt was filmed at the June 23, 2018 performance. The score was reused and expanded for blackstar (2019-2020); Kerr calls kosmos 'blackstar's predecessor'. A folder named '2021 Update' suggests later revisions (see open questions).
